LEAR, Edward (1812-1888). Common Buzzard. Hand-colored lithograph, [1832-1837], (565 x 368 mm). Drawn on stone by Lear from his own drawing, printed by Charles Hullmandel. Condition: very slightly toned. A fine image demonstrating Lear's mastery of the relatively new technique of natural history lithography. A plate from Gould's The Birds of Europe [London: 1832-1837, 5 volumes], which included 68 plates by Lear. View Bloomsbury Auctions next auction.Similar lots up for auction |
