Original green cloth, blocked in gilt and blind. Condition: occasional spotting and light soiling, heavier in vol.I and at beginning and end of vols., pp. 291-294 and plate 44 detached in vol.I, small chip to outer blank margins of plates 52 (vol. I) and 303 (vol. VI), plate 257 in vol. V re-inserted; some soiling, spines faded and chipped at head and foot, repair to head of spine of vol. I. Provenance: Slater Duncsar (armorial bookplates, marginal notes in pp.346 and 350 in vol. III). First Edition. Mullens & Swann p.417; Nissen IVB 645. [With:] F.O. MORRIS. A Natural History of the Nests and Eggs of British Birds. London: Groombridge, 1864. 3 volumes, large 8vo (248 x 158 mm). Small format letterpress note inserted at front of vol.I. 225 plates printed in colors from woodblocks and finished by hand, by Benjamin Fawcett. Original green cloth, blocked in gilt and blind. Condition: occasional very light spotting; corners bumped, head and foot of spines slightly rubbed. Provenance: Sydney J. Palmer bookplates). This set probably a second editiion as according to Mullens and Swann it was not until 1875 that the full compliment of 232 plates was published. Cf. Large 8vo (250 x 154 mm). 73 plates (2 uncolored, 71 printed in colors and finished by hand). Original green cloth, blocked in gilt and blind. Condition: occasional light spotting; corners bumped.
