ANDREWS, Henry Charles (fl.1799-1828) The Heathery, or a Monograph of the genus Erica. London: printed by Richard Taylor & Co., sold by the Author, 1804[-n.d. i.e.1807]. Vols. I-IV only (of 6), 8vo (230 x 138 mm). Hand-colored engraved additional title to vol.I, 198 (only, of 200) hand-colored engraved plates, some heightened with gum-arabic, extra-illustrated with an early loosely inserted watercolor copy of 'Erica discolor'. Condition: letterpress title to vol.I only, additional title shaved into image area (as often), some plates shaved with loss of imprint, a few with loss to titling, and the 86th plate in the first vol., and the 85th in the second shaved into the image area; spines dry and somewhat faded, corners bumped. Provenance: Anne Whitwell (Belle Vale, Liverpool, inscriptions, dated 1809); Joseph Crosfield (Liverpool, bookplate); Lynn Abbott Trust. a fine selection from this beautifully-illustrated work. It was issued by Andrews as a "small, concise, and pleasant" version of his folio Coloured Engravings of Heaths (London: 1794-1830).
