Half-title. 48 hand-colored lithographic plates by and after Burbidge, printed by V. Brooks Day & Son. Original purple pebble-grained cloth, the covers bordered in blind, the upper cover with large central flower-head blocked in gilt, spine lettered in gilt. Condition: some very light spotting, occasional oxidisation of white pigment; covers faded in parts, spine faded and bumped or chipped at head or foot, patterened endpapers.Provenance: Lynn Abbott Trust. a fine copy of this charming work. The author took Baker's 1869 review of the genus as his starting point and set out to illustrate "all the species at present in cultivation" in the United Kingdom.
