London: Stewart & Murray for William S. Orr & Co., [n.d. but 1849]. 4to (288 x 230 mm). Half-title. 90 hand-colored lithographic plates. Contemporary green morocco, covers with wide decorative border in gilt, the central panels on both covers blocked in gilt with a large naturalistic bouquet made up from three flower sprays, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third compartments, the others with repeat decoration in gilt, g.e. Condition: light spotting to half-title and title, slight discoloration to plates numbered 54 and 86; rebacked with old spine laid down. Provenance: Charles Henry. Lidderdale (armorial bookplate); Lynn Abbott Trust. the second edition of the most extensive of loudon's attractive gardening works. The first edition, normally found in two volumes, includes six more plates than the present edition. Cf. Nissen BBI 1237.
