SCHUMANN, Karl Moritz (1851-1904). Bluehende Kakteen (Iconographia cactacearum) Im Auftrage der Deutschen Kateen-Gesellschaft. Neudamm: Neumann, [n.d but October 1900- October 1921]. 3 volumes, 4to (318 x 248 mm). Half-titles. 176 lithographic plates (4 double-page, most hand-colored, some printed in colors and finished by hand, a few printed in colors) after T. Gürke and others(?). Publisher's green cloth, blocked in gilt. Condition: occasional light spotting, very light creasing to upper outer corners of about half of the text block in vol.II; vols. II and III neatly rebacked with the original spines laid down. Provenance: Lynn Abbott Trust. a beautifully-illustrated work on cacti, rare at auction: there is only one set listed as having sold at auction in the past thirty years. The plate numbering runs from 1-180, but the double-page plates are each allocated two numbers (153/154, 161/162, 166/167, and 175/176), and the actual total of plates is therefore 176.
