c. 1865, Cabinet Card of Peter Cooper, American Manufacturer who Built the First American Locomotive, Founded Cooper Union, Printed by Rockwood, NY, Choice Very Fine.
An impressive, very strong, original 6.5" x 4.25" cabinet card with Rockwood imprint on the bottom margin. Nice profile image of the white-haired, bushy bearded philanthropist with small spectacles. Backstamp by "Rockwood Photographer" features a winged sprite with paintbrush and artist's palette, painting a sign. Slight age-toning and wear. Peter Cooper, 1791–1883, American manufacturer, inventor, and philanthropist who built the first American locomotive. He also founded the Cooper Union (1859) in New York City, which offered free courses in the arts and sciences.
