New Hampshire Currency
1803 Bank Check Signed by Patriot Nathan Hale's Cousin

Portsmouth, NH, Check on the New Hampshire Bank, Signed by a Cousin of the Patriot, Nathan Hale, Choice Extremely Fine.
This partly printed, 2" x 6" check on the New Hampshire Bank, dated February 19, 1803, is signed "Saml. & Wm. Hale." Ornamented with simple decorations along the top and left end, this check has a spindle hole cancellation near the lower right, as was typical at that time. Samuel and William Hale were brothers and cousins to Patriot, Nathan Hale. A wonderful and historical document from one of the first banks in the America.

William Hale (1765-1848) and Samuel Hale (1758-1828) were brothers, sons of Major Samuel Hale (1718-1807) who led a New Hampshire regiment in the Siege of Louisburg in 1745. Major Hale's brother, Richard (1715-1802), was the father of the famous patriot, Nathan Hale (1755-1776), who was hanged by the British as a spy, and who is remembered for his statement, "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country."

Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
