Tombaugh's Ephemeris & Nautical Almanacs

The American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac
issued by the Department of the Navy for 1900-1928, 1930-47, 1949-59, 1961-1980,. A virtually complete run of these important volumes that contain lists of the numbers used to locate heavenly bodies. These volumes (about 75 different + about 20 duplicates) are from the personal library of Clyde Tombaugh (for the years 1920-1956; he was born in 1906 and died in 1997) and most contain his name (hand written or hand stamped) in the front as well as, in many cases, bookmarks with his notations. Many are notated with Lowell Observatory, Lowell Observatory/ Flagstaff, Arizona or New Mexico State University handstamps as Tombaugh's career took him around the country. We note occasional bookplates from the US Naval Observatory, Clyde Tombaugh and others. This is a very rare set of books that belong on the shelf of any serious astronomer. To locate these books, used by the discoverer of the Planet Pluto during his observations of the heavens, both before and after his discovery of the planet, is a unique opportunity for you to hold hands with history. The 1901-02 volumes are buckram/leather bound and are quite battered. The other volumes, blue cloth bound, are in excellent overall condition. A unique presentation.
