1961, Echo I Balloon "Satelloon" Skin Sample
(6x6.25") mounted on a presentation card (6.5x10.5") as distributed by the G. T. Schjeldahl Co. at the Interpex International Stamp Show in New York on March 17, 1961 and with a 4c Communications for Peace" stamp tied by a show cancel below. The Echo 1 balloon was used in one of America's first attempts to find a use for outer space. This attempt involved the attempted use of a ground station to bounce a radio signal off the "skin" covering a balloon in space. This card will make a great addition to any collection.
