John William Theiss (California, 1863-1932) 14" x 20" watercolor on paper titled "Los Flores Canyon". Signed lower right "J.W. Theiss" & dated "1919". John Theiss was born in Zelienople, PA. He was a minister from 1886-89 in Madisonville, Ohio. He began painting landscapes of the Sonoma Hills and Yosemite in 1901. In 1904, he moved to Los Angeles into a studio home where he was a active painter in Southern California until the mid-1920's. He got married in 1925 and settled in Springfield, Ohio. He was a member of the Los Angeles Painters Club and Springfield Art League. Very well listed artist. Fine condition in original frame. EST. $200. - $400.
