Late 19th/20th century, the base impressed ''Fratin'' (Christopher Fratin, 1800-1864, French), the reverse of hinged box lid with dedication ''From the Collection of / The Late Major Lord Blythswood / Blythswood House / Renfrew 1930'', the larger monkey holding a wicker basket and an oil lamp, over a rectangular onyx base with utensil holder, overall, 11'' H x 10'' W x 8'' D, est:$5000/7000. Note: As per the inscription, this piece was in the collection of Blythswood House, Renfrew, Scotland. Blythswood House was built by architect James Gillespie Graham for Archibald Campbell, the first Baron Blythswood, in 1821. It is likely that this bronze belonged to Archibald Douglas, the 4th Baron Blythswood (1870-1929). A version of this model, with a further basket in place of the box with smaller monkey and no additional base, was offered Christie's, London, February 27, 1997, lot 245
Condition reportWith a deep brown patina to surface overall. General marks, scratches and light rubbing to surface overall. Integral bronze base acts as an oil reservoir for the lamp. Lamp lacking wick. Base, under onyx plinth with two holes. With some scattered minor chipped losses to onyx plinth. AS-IS. ALL SALES FINAL.
