A Russian Muscovite inlaid silver binding Bible

With a right-facing Kokoshnik, 1908-1917, Moscow, with maker's mark in Cyrillic ''SG'', the front cover centrally decorated with the Ascension of Christ, flanked by the four Evangelists, within a scrolling foliate ground, the reverse decorated with three angels seated at a table before Abraham and Sarah, the text printed in black and red throughout, New Testament, probably Slavonic, overall, 4'' H x 12.5'' W x 17.5'' D, est:$12,000/18,000. Binding decoration nicely executed. Inset with amethyst, garnet and turquoise(?). Some stones missing to either side. General marks, scratches and tarnishing to binding overall, commensurate with age and use. Spine dented. Feet to back pushed in. Lacking clasps to side. Text with spine unglued. Pages loosened. Text appears complete. Page generally good overall with some soiling to edges and some creases at corners. With a later custom-made case. This and all lots are sold AS IS.
