Original early nineteenth century engraving of the Declaration of Independence, the Eleazer Huntington engraving. This is an important engraving of the Declaration of Independence carries the facsimile signatures of the signers. Offered by Huntington to compete with the Benjamin Owen Tyler Declaration of Independence which was printed in 1818. The Huntington print was designed on a smaller sheet size, 20" x 24-1/2." In the same year as this Huntington engraving, William Stone began work on his famous Declaration of Independence printing. Bidwell in, "American History in Image and Text," locates only three copies of the Huntington printing of the Declaration (the Huntington Library, Massachusetts Historical Society, and American Antiquarian Society). Rare, attractive, and important. Restored on Japanese paper with minor paper missing from margins, 1820.
