A good war-date Union soldier's letter by Pvt. Truman H. Hunter, Co. K, 2nd Vermont, KIA Savage Station, Yorktown, Virginia, May 11, 1862, and reads in part: "...we left Williamsburg it is just one week to since we had a bit of a fight, the Vt. brigade was not in the fight we were supporting the center battery, the fight was on each flank, right & left there were a great many killed. I went all over the field the next morning there were awful sights to be seen...we are now in camp near West Point about 35 miles from Richmond, we shall enter there before long. The rebels are some afraid of our army, they think we are all sharpshooters, our men do not wound a great many...I wish there was no war & I owned a farm down here, it is the neatest place in the world I think cornfields of 40 acres & wheat fields to large to measure..."
