Excellent content 4 pg. letter written by Amos Coar of the Pennsylvania 2nd Artillery, dated September 23, 1864, York, Pa. U.S. General Hospital, Ward 8. With the original transmittal stamped cover. He writes to his friend Enos Clayton about his wounds and voting for Lincoln. His spelling is terrible, which has been corrected to transcription, although his writing is bold and clear. Reads in part: "let you know how I am getting along my health is very good and I hope these few lines will find you and all the rest of you enjoying the pleasure of health. My leg is getting well very nicely. There is two holes…one as big as a silver dollar and the other as big as a ten cent piece. I can get along without my crutches….there is an inquirer in this city that wrote to Gov. Curtain to let us come home to vote. He is a good union man….the preacher mostly preaches good sermons. He talked about our President and the soldiers that has come at their country's call to sustain that good old flag that has been waving in love over our peaceful firesides & homes. I would to god that Abram Lincoln is elected for President again for I think this cruel rebellion will be closed to stay closed and our flag can wave in peace over the graves of our dear soldiers that has spilled their life's blood to for it. I suppose the draft is a coming of sure in Bucks county and Montgomery. This hospital had a vote on the election and it went for the President Lincoln 800,87 majority". A great content letter written by a wounded soldier supporting Lincoln for reelection in 1864.
