He formed a notable Judaica collection. JOSHUA I. COHEN (1801-1870) actively engaged during lifetime in securing Jewish rights in Maryland, before and after passage of the "Jew Bill." Lengthy 2 ½ page penned letter, Baltimore May 13, 5609 [1849] to Isaac Leeser, Phila. 8 x 10. His small writing difficult to decipher (includes few words in Hebrew) and signs it "Your friend 'C.'" Back sheet acts as cover addressed to Leeser and postal surcharge. Accompanied with photostats of his letter of 1848 to Leeser with the identical opening and his full signature "Joshua I. Cohen"; absolutely no mistaking that this 1849 letter is by same fellow! That earlier letter even appeared that he was trying to arrange a blind date for him!). This 1849 letter (in English with few Hebrew words) is worth of the patience to clarify the writing. Light aging; exc. condition. Accompanied with bio sketches of Joshua Cohen and his eminent Baltimore family
