ISADOR KITSEE (1845-1931). Credited with the first trolley car in Phila.; a refrigerator car, railroad signals; the underground telegraph (after Edison had abandoned the idea as impractical) and improvement in telephone systems. Granted a patent 1889 for a wireless set (and sold his rights to Marconi); he invented a phonograph disk and device for use of speech with motion pictures and methods of extracting gold from its ores….and much more. (Accompanied with fine bio sketches) Group of four impressive large documents relating to his invention for "IMPROVEMENTS IN APPARATUS FOR INDICATING THE PRESENCE OF FIRE-DAMP [combustible gas] IN MINES" (especially coal mines). Includes: (1) original typed contract 27 Feb., 1885: Kitsee places in trust that invention to his attorney the noted Mayer Sulzberger; with original signatures of Kitsee HENRY ILLOWAY (noted physician who wrote polemical papers opposing reformed Judaism and other Jewish observations) and Joseph Block as witnesses. Affixed is separate fancy printed receipt from the U.S. Patent office (with official seal) attesting to the transfer of patent). (2) Beautifully penned lengthy 17 page (large 7 x 13) official "copy of final specification of Isador Kitsee for [his apparatus for 'fire-damp in mines']." (3) March, 1888 dated three page (8 x 13) typed "letter of incorporation" addressed to the Gov of Penna. Reporting the corporation of "THE MINE SAFETY COMPANY" with many official signatures including that of Isador Kitsee and Mayer Sulzberger and "Jacob Muhr" prominent Phila. Jewish merchant. Attached is printed State of Pa. document with original signature of Governor of Pa and affixed state seal approving application…(4) Official British gov't July 16, 1885 three page printed and ink completed document granting Isador Kitsee patent for that invention. All showing normal aging exc. and complete (with fine bio sketches of Kitsee and Illoway)
