Neatly penned on his personal printed letterhead "HENRY ILIOWIZI / PHILA." single page (7 x 9) letter with full signature of Iliowizi to fellow Rabbi Geo. Kohut of N.Y. City. Nov. 23, 1892. Advises that he sent his friend a copy of his masterpiece poem the "THE QUEST OF COLUMBUS" (having Judaic significance) commemorating 400'th anniversary of America's discovery. Advises Kohut "…you may review it if you feel like doing so in any magazine you like" adding a somewhat modest statement about: "My earlier poetical efforts." Exc. After earlier leading congregations in Harrisonburg, Va and Minneapolis, then in 1900 Adath Jeshurn in Phila., he devoted himself exclusively to literature, producing many notable literary works. Kohut instrumental in pub. of first Jewish encyclopedia; also led Congr. in Dallas, Texas and later Mount Vernon, N.Y.; (with bio sketches of both rabbis.).…
