June 14, 1772 dated, neatly penned invoice (3 x 7) addressed to him: "Please to pay John Bridges for one day labor loading on board the schooner 'ACTIVE' [as] found timely." Signed by ship's Captain Wm. Pinniger. Reverse with signature of Bridges indicating received payment. Light aging; minor browning typical of the era. Exc. It was Lopez who laid the cornerstone 1793 of the famous Newport "Touro" synagogue (today a national landmark). He was one of the outstanding merchants and shippers of 18'th century Newport; heavily engaged in whaling, fishing and a pioneer in mfr. of spermaceti candles (major product of the whaling industry)…………
