Mourning Silk Ribbon For Shortest Term U.S. President 1841, William Henry Harrison, Silk Mourning Ribbon, With Portrait of Harrison and His Dying Words, Fine. This silk mourning ribbon, done all in black, has a half-length portrait labeled: "Gen. Wm. H. Harrison" and an inscription above: "In Memory of Departed Worth." The places and dates of his birth and death are given below the portrait, and between two black bars at the bottom, his dying words: "Sir - I wish you to understand the true principles of the Government. I wish them carried out. I ask nothing more." This ribbon has some thin spots at the top, a small tear in the right margin, and has browned somewhat with age, otherwise the portrait is nice and overall this souvenir from a president who served only one month in office, is in fine condition. William Henry Harrison had the shortest term in office of any American president, only 32 days. The son of Benjamin Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, William made a name for himself in the early Indian Wars and was rewarded with the governorship of the Indiana Territory, where he served during 1800-1812. He is best known for his victory over the Shawnee Chief,Tecumseh, at the battle at Tippecanoe Creek (1811). After serving in the House and the Senate, Harrison won the presidency in 1840. He gave a 100-minute inaugural speech in the snow without hat or overcoat, caught pneumonia, and died a month later. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
