Political
Acquittal of President Andrew Johnson May 20, 1868, "THE DELAWARE EXPRESS," Delhi, NY, Choice Fine. 4 pages, 22" x 15", scattered age stains, some marginal tears on the first page, and one of the advertisements on the third page has been circled. This newspaper is from the General John Bradstreet estate and the name of one of his relatives appears above the masthead on the front page. The important content in this edition appears in two columns on Page 2, where the acquittal of President Andrew Johnson "on the Eleventh Article" is announced. In an accompanying editorial, the "Albany Express" heaps invectives upon the seven Republican Senators who abandoned their party and voted for acquittal. Labeling them "The Recreant Senators," this article holds nothing back. This paper provides a great comparison to the recent attempt to impeach President Clinton and the importance of politics in such an action. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
