WINCHESTER, Va. July 12, 1863 cds on cover with "DUE 10" docketed "From Miner of Comp K 15th Regt. S.C. V." addressed to Mrs. Martha Miner of Edgefield Dist. South Carolina, VG, with an original Autograph Letter Signed, "James Miner Co. K 15th S.C. Regt." 2p. octavo, September 7, 1863, and reads in part: "...all is quite now along our lines as far as I can hear nothing stirring now. All is very quite now and I hope that they will remain so until peace is made and I do hope that time is not far distant when we all can return home in peace...we drill twice a day and have dress parade too...." Fine. (2 items)^tThe 15th South Carolina Infantry served on James Island before moving to Virginia where it fought under Generals Drayton, Kershaw, Kennedy, and Conner, and participated in the battles of the Army of Northern Virginia from Second Manassas to Gettysburg, and then fought with Longstreet at Chickamauga and Knoxville before returning to Virginia and fighting at The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor. They had 137 casualties at Gettysburg and would eventually surrender with General Johnston.^t
