etterhead on single page (8 x 10) neatly penned letter March 14, 1910 with fine autograph of Rabbi Rhine. To Judge Mayer Sulzberger noted Phila. Jurist and President of J.P.S. Rhine writes he is satisfied with Sulzberger's explanation of why J.P.S. delayed pub. of his essay "…do not blame me for impatience [for] three years elapsed since J.P.S. accepted it…glad Miss Szold informed me it would be published this Dec…my patience will receive its reward…[proceeds to describe] two reasons I cannot do any work on the Bible" [no library facilities nor the time for the work]: "while my congregation is small I…give much time to their needs…here in great numbers…carried out under auspices of B'Nai Brith…have been out of touch with an atmosphere of Jewish learning for 8 years. My present environment far from condusive to scholarship [with sentence in Hebrew]…Cyrus Adler will submit my essay to you." Minor aging; exc. With bio sketch of Rhine. He became one of state's best known communal leaders, particularly in education; president of local Board of Education; founder of the Ark. Ass'n of School Boards; leader in Ark.
