Brochure for Dr. J. Wm. Van Namee of New York City, 32p. octavo, c. 1870's, in fine purple cover, and franked on verso by a 1c blue banknote stamp, the postal fee for delivering an unwrapped circular.^tHomeopathy, which involves the treatment of illness using medications which have similar effects in healthy individuals to that occurring in those with a particular illness, has been of considerable controversy since its beginnings in late 18th century Germany. Certainly, the public's interest in homeopathy had much to do with the ineffectiveness of allopathic medical treatment in the 18th and 19th Centuries, an era of bloodletting, purging, and leeches. Given the continued enmity between homeopathic and allopathic physicians, it is unusual to observe, as occurs in the present letter, a homeopathic physician asking an allopathic physician for help establishing a practice. Such conflicts continue to the present day, with the influence of American homeopathy peaking in the 1880's and only recently experiencing some degree of resurgence. ^t^t
