KENNEDY, John F. (1917-1963) 35th U.S. president. U.S. Congressman (1947-1961) defeated Nixon in the 1960 election, by a popular vote of 49.7% to 49.5%. During his administration the country went through the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the Berlin Crisis, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Twenty-third Amendment was ratified.
