Beach scene with a woman standing on a rocky cliff overlooking people bathing in the water and on the beach and houses in a mountain landscape in the distance, signed LR, "18.5"H x "21.5"W. Mounted in a nice carved giltwood frame. There is some minor paint flaking near the bottom center of the painting, otherwise good condition, conservation board on back, not examined outside the frame. Incudes a book, "Frederick Carl Frieske" The Evolution Of An American Impressionist, Tellfair Museeum Of Art Savannah, Georgia, Princeton University Prees, 200l. Frederick Frieske was born in Owosso, Mi in 1874 and later attended calsses at the Art Insitute of Chicago in 1893 and then later moved to Paris and enrolled in the Academie Julian. He went on to become one of the most influential American impressionist artists and his works are displayed in musems and prominent private collections throughout the world.
