Apollo "Cobra Head" Communications Cable
The communication connector and cable that connected each Apollo astronaut with the ship that was nicknamed a "Cobra Cable" because of its visual similarity to the snake. One end of the cable was connected to either the spacesuit or the in-flight garment and the other end to a black rubber or beta cloth covered cable (see Lot 221), which was then connected to the spacecraft. The cable carried all of the communications between the astronauts and mission control, as well as the astronaut's biotelemetry from his "Bio Belt". The large blue box on the cable has a double throw switch that would toggle communications between the crew and ground control. This 11" long, 1" thick and 3" high cable is in excellent unused condition, with a pristine white beta cloth cover and both of its machined aluminum protective end caps. Attractive and rare.
