Georgia Currency
May 4, 1778 Twenty Dollars "Rattlesnake" Seal Note State of Georgia. May 4, 1778. Twenty Dollars. "Coiled Rattlesnake" Seal Vignette. Choice Crisp About Uncirculated. Fr. GA-122. This Revolutionary War era Georgia note has four large to huge margins that frame the bold black and red printed text and designs. These Bills of Credit were funded "out of the Monies arising from the Sales of forfeited (Tory) Estates." Serial number 2665. It is well printed in red and black on period watermarked laid paper that shows some original embossing of the original press bed type into the paper. There is trivial handling crease in the far outer extra selvage at the lower right corner with some very faint humidity tone present. The blue "Rattlesnake" Seal is clear and well embossed. The five fresh bold brown ink signatures of Charles Kent; William Few; William Maxwell; William O'Bryen and Nehemiah Wade add to the eye appeal. This impressive note is fully original, being part of an eight note consignment of close serial numbered notes of this same issue, to be sent to us from a family who's heritage goes back to the very settling of the early Colony of Georgia. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
