Encased Postage Stamps
Outstanding One Cent "N & G Taylor & CO." Philadelphia EP-28, HB-225, S-169, One Cent, N. G. TAYLOR & CO., Philadelphia, Choice EF+ to About New. Rated as Rarity-7 (11 to 15 known) according to Fred Reed. Undoubtedly, amongst the Finest Known. This is a top quality example for which the Hodder-Bowers "Standard Catalog" makes the comment, "Denominations known include 1¢ through 12¢. None is really collectable." The stamp remains bold and vibrant, literally as the day it was printed, and t is perfectly centered. The mica is clear and unbroken but has a few scattered natural internal laminations at left, just above the moon edge, most likely as made. The case itself is extraordinary in the fact that it remains a lovely natural chestnut in color with only the slightest hints of friction and remains fully lustrous with traces of original Silvering within some of the central legends. This is one of the most beautiful examples of an N. G. Taylor merchant type we have ever encountered. An important opportunity which should not be missed for rarity and quality conscious Encased Postage collectors. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
