Encased Postage Stamps
Very Rare Three Cents "Tremont House" Chicago EP-45, HB-121, S-89, Three Cents, "TREMONT HOUSE," Gage Brothers & Drake, Chicago, Very Fine. Rated as Rarity-8 (5 to 10 known) according to Fred Reed. This example has a well centered and slightly high rich red stamp which has a bit of faint tone. The mica has a couple of surface lamination craze areas from the center of Washington's head towards the top rim edge and a small bruise near center, remaining unbroken. The case grades Extremely Fine, and is a perfect golden-chestnut in color being defect free with every detail sharp and clear. According to the Hodder and Bowers in their reference "The Standard Catalog," they state that of all known examples, four are already locked away into institutional collections. Thus, there are less than a mere handful available for all collectors and a great item for advanced Encased Postage Stamp collectors. In any event, it is Exceedingly Rare and only the second example we have offered and a great opportunity. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
