Important Rarity-9 (2 to 4 Known) 5¢ "John W. Norris" EP-87, HB-186, S-138, Five Cents, JOHN W. NORRIS, News - Books & Stationary, Chicago, About New. Rated as Rarity-9 (2 to 4 known) according to Fred Reed. This is such a great rarity that its listing is not priced, in any grade and having only dashes instead of values, in "The Standard Catalogue," reference by Hodder and Bowers. In addition, this EP number is not priced, in any grade, in the Fred Reed reference book. The overall quality of this remarkable rarity starts with the fresh, vibrant brown Jefferson stamp. It is well centered, just a bit to the right and viewed under choice mica that remains extremely clear and unbroken. The case has all the tiny details of the legends exceedingly sharp and defect-free. The natural chestnut color mixes with deeper tones and patination on the obverse inner rim edges and all about the reverse text. This exceedingly rare 5¢ denomination absolutely ranks as one of the Finest Known in a population of only two to four known. We have offered one example twice. Once as EX: Kagin's Abbey Collection Sale, Lot 1451, February 4, 1988 and sold by us in December 1999, Lot 598 in About EF quality. This present specimen is far superior and the Finest of the Two we've offered. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
