Macerated Currency
Macerated Currency in the Shape of a Hatchet Macerated Currency, "Souvenir Washington D.C.," In the Shape of a Hatchet, Very Rare, Choice Extremely Fine. This unusual Macerated Currency item is inscribed in raided letters on the handle, "Souvenir Washington D.C.," and has a label on the back reading, "Made of United States Bank Notes redeemed and macerated at the U.S. Treasury, Washington, D.C. Estimated $7,000." The head of the hatchet has a depiction of the U.S. Capitol Building. The hatchet or axe may be a reference to Prohibition, when axes were used to smash barrels of illegal liquor, or it may be a reference to the story of young George Washington cutting down the cherry tree. Either way, its a very rare example of macerated currency and the first of this type we have offered. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
