Indian Peace Medals
James Polk Indian Peace Medal Middle Size in Bronze 1845-Dated. James Polk Indian Peace Medal. Middle Size. Struck at the United States Mint in Bronze. NGC graded Mint State-64. Julian IP-25b. Belden-39. 62mm. This middle size Indian Peace Medal was struck in bronze at the United States Mint in Philadelphia, using the new reverse die. The original obverse die was engraved by John G. Chapman, and the reverse die by John Reich. This is an early restrike using the new reverse die created at the mint in 1846. The obverse has an extremely high-relief portrait of Polk; the reverse shows the usual clasped hands and crossed pipes design that was in style during 1809-1849. This medal is simply superb, especially the obverse, with a pleasing medium brown color. The reverse has a lighter area of tone and a couple tiny contact marks below the clasp hands. A beautiful Uncirculated example of this very scarce, Middle Size, James Polk Indian Peace Medal. Accompanied by an NGC photo authentication certificate. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
