Centennial Declaration of Independence Broadside With Its Extremely Rare Original 1875 Printed Envelope

(DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE), c. 1875, Advertising Broadside: "1776-1876 Centennial Memorial" Declaration of Independence, Copyrighted by James D. McBride, Printed by the Colombian Publishing Company, New York, Choice Near Mint
This Broadside celebrates the United States' Centennial by reproducing the Declaration of Independence and its facsimile signatures, measuring 19.5" x 14.5" printed in black on thin, cream-colored paper. Accompanied by the original 1875 mailing envelope, 4" x 8.75", Fine. Atop is the image of an eagle flanked by American flags. In the lower left-hand corner is the Department of the Interior's seal and a facsimile signature by the Secretary of the Interior, certifying that this is a "perfect Fac.Simile of the original document now on deposit in the Patent Office at Washington, D.C." Very light age toning and numerous storage folds with a few minor splits, but in otherwise excellent condition. This piece was printed by the Colombian Publishing Company of New York as a Centennial Memorial to the signing of the Declaration of Independence and an advertising piece for Churchill, Gilchrist, Smith & Co., Dry Goods, Boston. Interestingly, a tiny notice at the bottom of the broadside offers a plate paper version with a red seal and no advertising panel for a mere 50 Cents - we'd sure love to see one of those.
This souvenir "FacSimile of the Declaration of Independence", is the first we have seen with the original 1875 envelope. A rare original envelope displaying bust images of Washington and Lafayette on either side of the Washington Monument. The years 1775 and 1875 are above the respective images, and the words "The Battle Centennial' are positioned between the years and the presidential images. There is overall toning on the envelope and the edges are torn along both the left and right sides with some slight disruption of the design. It is also chipped across the top edge and the "W" on the word Washington is torn. This is a rare historic find, perfect for display. (2 items)
