Free Franked Letter Cover, "Jas Monroe" as Secretary of State, postmarked "July 3 [no year] WASHN CITY," Brown Ink, 3.25" x 5", Choice Very Fine. The cover is addressed to Charles Everett. Some of the wax seal is extant on verso. An oval impression with a tiny heraldic eagle still remains in the paper over the original wax seal. Overall toning is minimal. It is worn in three places on the inside with two large holes and one small hole which are not visible from front cover. Monroe's signature is bold and very dark. Also included is a copy of a color portrait of Monroe. (2 items)
