"John J. Pershing" Signed Original Portrait GENERAL JOHN J. PERSHING, American Major General of the Mexican Border Campaign and World War I. Pencil and Charcoal Illustration Signed "John J. Pershing," 14" x 17", Choice Extremely Fine. Signed and dated by the artist, "D.A. Ahrens, 1942." A waist-up portrait of Pershing in a business suit, seated at a desk. Signed in black ink at lower right. Pershing (1860-1948) was Commander-in-Chief of American Expeditionary Forces In World War I. When this drawing was made, Pershing was in declining health; he had taken up residence in Walter Reed Hospital in 1940 and received visitors there until his death in 1948.
