American Revolution
Revolutionary War Dated Receipt
for Repairing Independence Hall !

December 23, 1779, Revolutionary War-dated Manuscript Document, Receipt for Repairs to Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Choice Fine.
This Revolutionary War Era handwritten document, dated at Philadelphia, measures 4.5" x 6.5." This document reads, "Please to pay Mr. Manuel Eyre one hundred and fifty-eight Pounds twelve Shillings and sixpence for 423 feet scantling at 7/6 per foot for State-House." It is signed by two Committee of Assemblymen and endorsed by Mr. Eyre at bottom left to show receipt of the referenced sum. Scantling was a small timber used in construction. The "State-House" was the common reference to the building we now know as Independence Hall. The name changed (unofficially at first) in 1824, when Lafayette returned to America and expressed a desire to visit the "Hall of Independence."

Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
