Colonel Vories Obtains Supplies On March to Winter Quarters December 8, 1781, Revolutionary War, Manuscript Document, Receipt for Supplies for Colonel Vories' Horses, Choice Fine. This handwritten Revolutionary War Document, measuring 3.75" x 6.25," and dated at Kakiat (now New Hempstead, NY), is a receipt for oats supplied to the horses of Colonel Vories' command, on the way to its winter quarters. This document reads, in full (spelling errors retained): "This Certifyeth Stephen Gurnie Suplyed me with five bushel of oats for the use of Coln. Vories horses on their march to winter Quarters. (signed) Gershom Tuttle, W. C. - to the County Contractor." Gershom Tuttle (1738-1818) was in charge of transporting supplies for the army during the Revolutionary War. He also apparently served as a Colonel in the Battle of Sackets Harbor during the War of 1812. This document is in nice condition, with some unevenness on the left end.
