September 14, 1782 dated, rare original Revolutionary War period Newspaper, "The Providence Gazette and Country Journal" was printed in Providence by John Carter, Fine. With the exception of some minor stains on the front page this 225 year old newspaper is in very good condition. This rare issue features an article titled "On the subject of and American Navy". This article was written by Benjamin rush but was signed "Leonidas" a pseudonym Rush frequently used. Most of the news in this issue deals with the war in South Carolina. In addition to war news there are several interesting advertisements including rewards for runaway prisoners and slaves and an ad for a slave for sale. A scarce Rhode Island Revolutionary War newspaper with a remarkable, historic connection to the burning of the Gaspee! Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
