Providence Gazette & Country Journal -Troops Mutiny! September 14, 1782 dated, Revolutionary War period Newspaper, "The Providence Gazette and Country Journal" was printed in Providence by John Carter, Very Fine. July 26, 1783 dated Revolutionary War period, rare and original 15" x 10.5" newspaper, "The Providence Gazette and Country Journal," which was printed in Providence by John Carter, Fine. With the exception of some minor stains on the front page this 225 year old newspaper is in very good condition. This rare issue features an article titled, "The late Mutiny of Continental troops in this city..." This article from the Freeman Journal describes how mutinous soldiers advanced on congress in Philadelphia demanding long overdue pay. Congress quickly moved had to Princeton New Jersey. This large article takes up two thirds of the front page. Also on the front page and one column of the second page is a "Narrative of Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton, K.B. relative to his conduct during part of his command of the King's troops in North America". In addition to war news there are several interesting advertisements including a reward for runaway prisoner. A scarce Rhode Island Revolutionary War newspaper with a remarkable, historic connection to the burning of the Gaspee! Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
