War of 1812
Note With Portrait of "Commodore Bainbridge" Serial #21

Northampton Town, PA. The Lehigh Bridge Company. Two Dollars. "Commodore Bainbridge" Portrait vignette by William Kneass. Choice Fine.
Haxby PA-Not Listed. Low serial number 21. This is an important postwar of 1812 issue, dated March 1, 1815. This series of notes was engraved by William Kneass, who later became the United States Mint Engraver. This is the only War of 1812 note to show the American Navy hero, Commodore Bainbridge's portrait on Obsolete currency. Thus this note has broad historic appeal. One note of this type we have handled fetched nearly $800 back in 2002. The Obsolete currency market has progressed much further since, specially for notes of this caliber. There is very minor sealed split on the top edge. A beautiful, scarce note from this rich, historical time period.
