Massachusetts Militia Broadside Orders For War Of 1812 1813, War of 1812, Printed Broadside, Detailing the Places and Dates on which Various Units of the Massachusetts Militia are to Assemble and Drill during October 1813, Choice Very Fine. This spectacular Printed Broadside, measuring 13.25" x 8.5," contains orders for the assembly and review of Division, Brigade and Regimental units of the Massachusetts Militia during the War of 1812. The top section contains "Division Orders" from headquarters at Plymouth, dated August 28th, 1813, with the printed signature of N. Hayward, Aid de Camp to the Major General. This section orders the soldier's muskets to be inspected, and those which are "not of a sufficient bore to carry a a ball weighing the eighteenth part of a pound" should be noted in the report. The middle section, containing "Brigade Orders," from headquarters at Taunton, is dated September 11, 1813, and has the printed signature of Elkanah Bates, Brigade Major. This orders the four regiments to assemble on different assigned days for their review and reports. The bottom section is headed "Regimental Orders," and comes from headquarters at New Bedford under the date September 20, 1813. This directs the companies from various towns to meet at assigned places and dates, and "... if possible, to go through the exercises and evolutions previous to dining." This section bears the printed signatures of Lt. Col. Benjamin Lincoln, Commanding the 2nd Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 5th Division, and his adjutant, Elisha Tobey. The back of this broadside is addressed by hand: "Brig. Genl. Thomas Lincoln - Taunton," and also contains a notation: "From Col. Benj. Lincoln - his order." Except for trivial edge tears, this document is in great condition, and will make a fabulous display when framed. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
