Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
Importing of Products to America Will be Reopened June 6, 1809, Merchant Letter to Colonel David Payson about "Expressing Confidence that the Status of Importing Products to America Will be Reopened," Choice Very Fine. Post-Revolutionary War Letter addressed to Colonel David Payson of Maine from Logan Lennox and Co., Liverpool, England. This is an interesting letter from Logan Lennox and Co., the most prominent of the merchants importing American timber. It is being writing to Colonel Payson about the politics of negotiations open trading with Britain and where it currently stood as well as the anticipated reaction from France. Logan Lennox affairs in the United States were managed by Peter Stubs, son of the Warrington Industrialists, and this correspondence mentions some accounting errors that Stubs will identify and correct. This 3 page letter still bears the vibrantly red, original postmark and measures 10" x 8". There are a few small tars along the folds as well as some visible smudges and age marks. The letter is written with brown ink and the text remains crisp and clear. David Payson of Wiscasset, Me., private and Corporal in the Revolutionary War Early American will accept payment by check or credit card. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
