Civil War
Civil War Lyric Sheet Describing the 1863 Shelling of Fort Anderson 1863, "Shelling of Fort Anderson. March 14, 1863," Engraved Civil War Lyric Sheet, by G.H. Sutherland, NY, Fine. This two-column lyric sheet boast of the bravery of the 92d NY Volunteers, who defended Fort Anderson in March 1863. The nicely printed sheet features an engraved likeness of a bearded soldier in what appears to be a Zouave uniform--most likely G.H. Sutherland, who served in the 92d NY: "Written by Dr. Sutherland, a 'live Yankee' of the N.Y. S.V., giving a true and spicy sketch of the bombardment. The 92d (only some 300 strong) was the only regiment in the fort at the time, and composed the entire force on this side of the 'Neuse River'..." No one on the Union side was killed, and the fort was successfully defended against the Confederates in North Carolina. Measuring 12.5" x 8", the printed sheet has several folds, some stains and slight edge splits, but has nice display potential. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
