Rare 1865 High Relief Bust Of Lincoln In Ornate Frame

1865, High Relief Profile Bust of Lincoln on original green felt background, Choice Extremely Fine.
A classic display of respect and admiration! Framed busts such as this once adorned parlors across the country. The bust itself measures about 6.5" x 5.5" and is nearly 1" thick in places. Apparently made of plaster, then painted white, and then silvered on the high spots, this bust is set against the original green felt background. The artist's name and the date appear on the bottom edge of the bust "J. Powell F. Patented 1865." This is set in a deep wooden frame, painted black with gold trim and an ornate border, which still has on the back remains of the old label of A. P. C. Bonte of Cincinnati. Our consignor doesn't believe this is necessarily a mourning memorial, but possibly was an end of the Civil War commemorative. Similar displays have been seen with Grant or McClellan. Light wear to bust has resulted in the loss of paint along some edges. This bust will make a wonderful display.
