Memorial Print of President Abraham Lincoln c. 1865, Memorial Print of President entitled, "Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States, Assassinated April 14, 1865," Engraved and published by J. C. Buttre, Choice Very Fine. This original, engraved print of President Abraham Lincoln measures 15.75" x 11.75" on heavy card stock. Design is from a photograph taken by Mathew B. Brady, border design by W. Momberger. The print features a quality, image of Lincoln surrounded by an intricate and very detailed, border design. The words, "The Union Forever" with the image of "Two Shaking Hands" are incorporated into the commemorative style border motif with illustrations of "Rebellion" and "Peace" depicted in the lower left and right corners (respectively), below the encircled portrait of Lincoln. There are four wonderful detailed vignette scenes, one in each corner. A facsimile signature, (A. Lincoln), appears within the border margin, below the central image. Written at the bottom of the print, just above Lincoln's signature, is printed, "Entered according to act of Congress AD 1864 by J.C. Buttre in the Clerks office of the District Court of the Southern District of New York. Engraved and published by J.C. Buttre 48 Franklin Street New York." The uncolored print is very clean with three small 1" long tears along the outer edges. One is centered at the top of the print, a second centered on the right side and the third centered at the bottom. Some slight tone along bottom edge could be easily covered when matted. An excellent, collectible and most historic memorial print that is most suitable for display. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
