1768 British Landing Troops at Boston By Paul Revere (1768) Undated Reprint: "A View of Part of the Town of Boston in New England and British Ships of War Landing their Troops 1768," Reproduced in 1954, Choice Near Mint. This color reproduction is an undated, late 20th Century, facsimile reprint, of a replica originally engraved by Paul Revere measuring 12.25" x 17.25", plate 24 of the Engravings of Paul Revere. The scene includes several buildings towering above the town of Boston in the distance, as war ships sail up the harbor, soldiers land and begin marching along dock. There is an elaborately designed cartouche in the bottom right corner of the print, portraying a native wearing a blue headdress sitting under a palm style tree with a bloody soldier at this feet. These words are printed in a 3/4" section along the entire bottom of the print: "On friday, Sept 30th 1768 the ships of war armed Schooners, Transports & came up the Harbour and Anchored round the Town; their Cannon loaded. a spring on their Cables, as for a regular siege. At noon on Saturday, October the 1st the fourteenth & twenty-ninth Regiments, a detachment from the 59th Regt and train......with two pieces of Cannon, landed on the Long Wharf; there formed and marched with insolent parade, drums beating, fifes playing, and colors flying, up King Street. Each soldier having received 16 rounds of Powder and Ball." The words, "Plate 24. Landing of the Troops, 1770.", are centered at the bottom of the print. There is a center fold almost invisible from the face. This 1954 print is in great condition and excellent for display. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
