Polk & Dallas "Grand National Banner" Campaign Print 1844, Presidential Campaign Print, Polk & Dallas, "Grand National Democratic Banner," by N. Currier, Very Fine. This original, 14" x 10" hand colored, Lithographic Print was made for the 1844 Presidential Campaign, and depicts the Democratic candidates for President and Vice-President, James K. Polk and George M. Dallas. Published by the firm of N. Currier (which became Currier & Ives in 1857) and copyrighted 1844, this colorful and ornate print is titled "Grand National Democratic Banner - Press Onward" and has the slogan above: "Polk, the Young Hickory, Dallas and Victory." Hand colored in blue, green, yellow and brown, the print itself is bright and attractive. The margins have browned with age and are scuffed along the outer edges from previous framing. The bottom quarter of the print has water stains, most obvious on the back. New matting and framing would put most of this out of sight, so as not upstage the print's fine graphics and overall visual appeal. Overall this is an beautiful and historical print.
