"Gibeon" Iron-Nickel Meteorite Slice, Africa.
This 5.5" x 3" x .25" thick, Iron-Nickel Meteorite Slice weighs 476 grams. Part of the large iron meteorite that fragmented in the Kalahari Desert in Africa thousands of years ago. This piece was etched after cutting to show the interesting "Widmanstatten" pattern, caused by the presence of two different Nickel alloys in this meteorite. This pattern does not occur on any earth ores and proves the extra-terrestrial origin of this specimen. This slice is from an old collection and has the original fusion crust on top and an interesting band that shows no pattern indicating that the nickel alloys lacked seperation in this section.
